FAQ's

01. What will GUTTERGrip™ look like on my home?

Beautiful. The sleek design of GUTTERGrip™, with its palette of colors that match most roofs, looks more like decorative roof trim than a gutter protection system. The screw-less connection between the brackets and the top cap keep the visual line of the roof smooth. The factory designed inside and outside corners and end caps enhance this look, finishing the installation with components that complete the system and enhance the beauty of the home.

02. How does GUTTERGrip™ handle heavy downpours and snow and ice loading?

Excellently. GUTTERGrip™ was designed to be an all-weather system and has many physical points of connection to handle the demands of downpours, wind effects, and the weight of snow and ice. The bracket firmly attaches to the hangers, which in turn are screwed into the fascia board of the house. The top cap is connected to the brackets with the Gripper™ and then the top cap itself is secured under the second shingle on the roof. The top cap is made from thick .027 aluminum, and the entire system, once installed, forms a fully supported addition to the existing gutters.

The shape of the top-cap itself has been designed to act as part of the water management system of the home, and to direct 10+ inches of water per hour into the gutter (as a point of reference, hurricane-strength storms average about 6" of rainfall per hour).

03. Will GUTTERGrip™ completely eliminate ice build-up and ice damming?

Not entirely. Ice build-up is a product of the natural freezing and thawing that takes place every winter. Typically, the roof is warmed by the heat rising in the house and the slightly warmed roof runnoff water tends to freeze when it hits the cold of air at the roof edge, typically over the gutter. If conditions persist, icicles will naturally form between an unprotected gutter and the house's fascia board to which it is nailed. Ice damming is a condition that can occur, where the ice formed in the gutter gets large enough that it backs up on the roof and causes damage and leaks. Leaks also often begin as the ice melts and drains down the fascia board, rots the wood over time, and finds ways to enter the house through small openings that occur.

GUTTERGrip™ was designed to provide a protective cover that in effect extends the roof line over the gutter, protecting the space between the gutter and the fascia board from excessive moisture or ice melt. Because the roof is still warm, water will run off the roof under snow loads, run down the top cap, and form icicles at the front edge of the gutter (the metal of the top cap is nto heated, and being colder than the roof, ice will form as the warm run-off water cools down). Icicles hanging at the front edge of GUTTERGrip™ is good, as these icicles are now away from the home, and are supported by the GUTTERGrip™ top cap and bracket system.

In a protected gutter system, Ice damming problems are significantly reduced if nto eliminated altogether, and the system should look as beautiful and perform as well in the spring as it did before the onset of winter.

04. Will GUTTERGrip™ damage the roof?

No. Installers use only approved roof installtion methods and compatible materials.

05. Can shingle grit, ping needles, helicopters, and other smaller debris get into GUTTERGrip™?

Occasionally, but easily managed. GUTTERGrip™ is not a system that welds the opening to the gutter shut. Instead, GUTTERGrip™ was designed to work in conjunction with the gutter and the roof to control the flow of water off the roof, as part of the home's water management system. As such, there will always be some debris that gets into the gutter, although the amount of the material getting into the gutter will be significantly reduced from what happens with an unprotected system.

Small amounts of debris simply get flushed into the downspout as water flows into the gutter. In areas where there is a significant occurrence of pine needles, as in dense forested areas, a larger downspout may be recommended. Talk to your dealer if you are concerned about this matter and they can help you decide the best course of action for your particular circumstances.

06. Does GTTERGrip require maintenance?

Very little. From the first day, the gutter itself should never clog again. After the first 30 days, when the industrial coating on the top cap has had the opportunity to weather and become fully activated to factory specifications, the GUTTERGrip™ system will effectively handle rain run-off, as designed. In the winter, some icicles that are hanging on the front of the gutter may need to be knocked off, especially if they are over an entryway or passageway. Occasionally, pine needles that significantly accumulate in roof valleys may need to be hosed off the roof so that they don't form huge clumps.

07. Is there a lifetime warranty on GUTTERGrip™?

Yes. GUTTERGrip™ comes with a lifetime performance warranty, and the Kynar 500 coating is warranted for thirty years. See the manufacturer's written warranty for details.

08. How long does a GUTTERGrip™ system installation take?

One day. GUTTERGrip™ can typically be installed in less than one day.
